A fishing team of father-son duo were having a great time when a massive humpback whale surfaced just feet away from them. They went striped bass and tuna fishing near Belmar, New Jersey.

Zach Piller, the son, recorded a video of the incident and shared it three days ago on Instagram. He said that the whale hit the side of their boat.

The video starts off with frenzied water movement, then in the next split second, thousands of tiny fish can be seen emerging from the water, followed by the enormous head of a whale poking out at the side of the pair's boat

As Piller witnesses the massive beast break the water's surface, he can be heard yelling with delight. The whale's head splashed down and disappeared under the water quite rapidly.

The big rescue

A beluga whale, that endangered its life by swimming too far up the Seine river into Paris, is being moved back to the ocean by French authorities, a marine specialist said on Tuesday.

Piller claims that due to the abundance of small fish nearshore at this time of year, whales and other creatures that eat them are drawn to the area.

According to him, Wednesday's weather was incredibly pleasant, with a maximum temperature of 70 degrees and calm, crystal clear water.

The father and son team were travelling aboard an 18-foot Starcraft that his father had created. It is located at Belmar's marina.
