CHENNAI: A circulation in the atmosphere closer to the coast may increase rain intensity in the city and the suburbs at least for the next two days. IMD has forecast rain intensity to be moderate in the city for the next two days and heavy rainfall in some interior districts till October 19.
For the next 48 hours, IMD has forecast moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over some areas of the city and the suburbs. The skies may be partly cloudy and maximum and minimum temperatures may be around 33°C-34°C and 25°C-26°C.
"A circulation in the lower part of the upper atmosphere over the south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu coast may influence rain activity," an IMD official said.
On Saturday, the day was bright and shiny as temperatures in the city and the suburbs settled at 32.2°C and 32.4°C in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam observatories. They were 0.4°C and 0.3°C below normal. Meenambakkam also recorded 0.2mm rainfall.
Late night and early morning rainfall has left 110.8mm and 87.7mm in the two observatories so far this month, which are 25.4mm and 7.7mm above normal.
Skymet Weather in its blog said there are chances of light to moderate rain with a few heavy spells in the state. IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in some of the western districts and heavy rainfall over a few central and southern districts.
