Khola govt school in need of urgent repair, say parents
need for facilities
Canacona: Parents of the 32-odd students studying at the Government Primary School at Curdi-Khola in Canacona, have said the school structure is in urgent need of repairs.
They said that the roofing is in a bad shape. Besides other facilities too are required to be put in place at the earliest, parents said. The benches and desks are in bad shape and the schools taps were installed without taking into consideration the height and age of the students, they said.
The issue is not new and parents and teachers have been raising them for the last three to four years, a parent said.
Sanjay Arjun Velip, a parent, said the school has just two rooms from which it runs Classes I to IV, with just two teachers. The second teacher was appointed a few days ago.
Velip said that former Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar was briefed about it in the past and he had assured that a file had been moved for renovation of the school premises. “Even after being the deputy chief minister till 2022, he could not do anything. When my daughter was in Class I the file was moved for renovation. Now my daughter is in Class IV, still the classrooms are not repaired.”
Assistant district education inspector Lawrence Pereira said that approval for the renovation has been granted by the government but the PWD is yet to start the work.
