Nagpur: A day after leader of opposition Ajit Pawar predicted that the BJP-Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde camp) government would not last long, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday reiterated that their government was stable and would complete its full term.
Pawar, while speaking at a programme, had said that there was a lot of instability in the government led by chief minister Shinde and “it would soon fall down”. Even the opposition legislators from Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray camp) were making similar claims about the government stating that rebel MLAs who failed to get a ministerial berth would leave Shinde camp.
“It seems Pawar himself is unstable. There is absolutely no instability in our government, and it will continue to run smoothly. Maharashtra has got a stable government after two and half years, which is progressive, quick in decision-making and is working for people’s welfare. We will not only complete our remaining term of two years but also be elected again in the 2024 polls,” Fadnavis told the media.
Supporting Pawar’s claims, the opposition legislators from the region told TOI that MLAs from the Shinde camp were promised either ministerial berths or chairmanship of Mahamandals for leaving the Thackeray camp. Three months down the line, neither cabinet expansion took place nor any major appointment was made on the Mahamandals, where chairman’s post was considered equivalent to a minister. “Former ministers in Thackeray’s cabinet like Bacchu Kadu and others are openly expressing their disappointment for not getting the cabinet berth,” they said.
