NEW DELHI/SHIMLA: A day after the Election Commission announced the poll schedule for Himachal Pradesh, home minister Amit Shah on Saturday, while addressing a rally in Sirmaur in the state, said PM Narendra Modi believes in development whereas Congress incites and divides people.
"Shouldn't the country be freed from dynastic politics? PM Modi has done the work of ending 'parivaarvad' in politics... Congress, in the desire for power, hasn't been able to respect our heritage," said Shah in his first rally after poll dates were announced for Himachal on Friday. "Modi believes in development and Congress in dividing people. Congress will have to search for their netas using binoculars on (vote) counting day," he further said. Shah also said "Congress will always be silent on Article 370 as it was created by Nehru."
Talking about Trans-Giri, the tribal region of Himachal Pradesh, Shah said, "We have covered 389 panchayats and 1.6 lakh people will get a tribal status. They will benefit from the schemes being run for tribal areas," he said. He also praised the people of Himachal for joining the Army in large numbers.
Shah also congratulated the Hati community of Himachal for getting the ST status. "PM Modi ended the Haati community's struggle of 55 years for 'tribal' status. He understands their pain and he proudly says 'Himachal is mine' as he has an attachment to the people of the state."
Shah said, "Himachal Pradesh is going to set a new custom that is 'ek baar BJP, baar baar BJP'. In Uttarakhand, Congressmen used to talk about the change of rule in alternative terms. But such customs were not followed and BJP government was formed with two-thirds majority." He said BJP will return to power with a two-third majority in Himachal Pradesh.
Attacking Congress, he said, "Congress's job is to create quarrels between people and ignite fires. But Modi works for development. Now if the Haati community has been given tribal status, then they conspire to instigate dalits and people from SCs that their rights will be gone. But there is no need to be afraid, I have protected all of the Dalit society."
