CM: Aiming for Goa to be one of world’s top-25 startup centres
Margao: CM Pramod Sawant said on Sunday said that the state government has envisaged Goa figuring in the world’s top-25 startup destinations by 2030, even as he hoped the state’s “promising” IT and start-up policy will lead to a “flourishing” start-up culture in Goa that will create a large network of business opportunities in the state.
Addressing the gathering at Goa Developers’ Summit, Sawant said that it will be the state’s constant endeavor to add to the skill sets of computer science professionals. He said that many MNCs will set up shop in Goa. “With Mopa airport getting operational, Goa will be the most sought-after logistics hub,” he said.
He said that the summit was aligned to his goal of Swayampurna Goa, which he said also covers skill development for gainful employment, incorporation of latest technology in IT, enhancing employment opportunities, to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
“Goa has its own dynamics in excelling in the world of IT,” he said.
President of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Ralph De Sousa said that the IT sector develops at a rapid pace, which often leads to redundancies if one doesn’t keep abreast of the “changes and breakthroughs”. tnn
Pointing out that the current academic curriculum isn’t aligned with the pace with which IT sector undergoes the change, De Sousa promised to play an enabling role in that direction.
