Ludhiana: After the release of Congress councillor Gagandeep Sunny Bhalla, who was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau in the alleged foodgrain scam, Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu lashed out at the Vigilance Bureau and its functioning. Besides expressing relief over Bhalla’s release, Bittu said he would take up the matter of vigilance officials “threatening” him with the Parliament and Union home minister
Amit Shah. He also accused the VB of being party to political vendetta of the ruling party ahead of the upcoming
Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and MC elections.
“I am a member of parliament and the vigilance official is threatening me for speaking out against injustice. I will take up the matter with Union home minister Amit Shah and also with the speaker, Parliament. What would be the difference between a gangster and a cop if the man in uniform makes such threats? I will also discuss these cases with senior advocates of our party.”
At the court complex for the hearing, Ravneet Bittu said, “Vigilance officials submitted before court that no evidence of Sunny Bhalla’s involvement was found and therefore he was discharged. Not only for Sunny Bhalla, but if the VB tries to implicate any Congress worker in Punjab, I will go and stand by them in their support.”
On allegations of taking money against vigilance officials, at which SSP Ludhiana range Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu threatened to file a defamation case against him, Bittu said, “I did not know anyone's name, if someone is taking it on himself, that he has to see. It is all political vendetta of the ruling party which cries when Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) comes to them however does the same using state agencies.”
Bitu accused the AAP government in the state of trying to take mileage in the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections. He added that Sunny Bhalla was targetted to stop him from contesting the upcoming MC elections.
