Bokaro: A radial gate of Tenughat Dam located on the Damodar river in Bermo subdivision was opened late on Friday evening due to the increase in the water level of the reservoir, following rain since the past three days. An alert has been sounded for the residents living in adjoining areas, an official said.
Pankaj Kumar, the assistant engineer of Tenughat dam division, said, “The maximum capacity of the dam is 852 feet but the water level touched 857.20 feet on Friday. Hence, we are releasing 3,859 cusecs of water per second into the river by opening a radial gate since Friday evening.”
“Now, the water flow in the river has increased to 147 cubic metres. We urge the residents to stay away from the swollen river,” he added. tnn
