Coimbatore: City police commissioner V Balakrishnan on Friday detained two more people - one of them a member of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and another a cadre of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) - under the National Security Act (
NSA).
They were earlier arrested in two separate cases of hurling a petrol bomb at a shop and attempting to set ablaze a car belonging to a Hindu Munnani functionary on September 22 and 23, respectively. They are currently lodged at the central prison in the city.
A police officer identified the duo as S Jesuraj, 35, of Arivozhi Nagar near Kovaipudur, and C Basha, 36, of Ukkadam.
“Jesuraj, an SDPI member, was held for trying to set the car belonging to a Hindu Munnani functionary on fire at Kuniyamuthur on September 23, while Basha, a PFI cadre, was arrested for hurling a petrol bomb at Maruti Selections, a wholesale cloth shop, on Oppanakara Street on the night of September 22,” he said. The order copies were served on the two at the central prison.
