PANAJI: The state's first haemophilia treatment commenced at Goa Medical College (GMC) from the hospital's ward 148 (medicine). A physiotherapy as well as occupational therapy room for haemophilia patients has been commissioned.
Health minister Vishwajit Rane, who inaugurated the new facility in the presence of GMC dean Dr S M Bandekar and other senior doctors, said a fridge fully equipped with the medicines required for the treatment of haemophilia has been installed. Haemophilia is an uncommon condition that impacts the blood's ability to clot and is usually an inherited condition.
Rane said he had an interaction with doctors from KEM Hospital and the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to see that haemophilia patients receive necessary care and treatment was discussed. "We will proceed after developing a comprehensive plan," said Rane.
Healthcare, he said, is a challenge, but with various innovations taking place, his ministry will strive to make healthcare accessible to all. Last week, the health department reintroduced an ambulance drop service for women who deliver in a government facility.
