2 foreign inmates assault Colvale jail matron

PANAJI: Colvale police on Friday booked two foreign nationals for allegedly assaulting a jail matron at the Central prison at Colvale.
Police said that the incident occurred at around 10.30am in the jail. Both the accused were taken to a phone booth inside the jail to allow them to call their relatives, but while they were being lodged into their cell, they got into an argument and pushed the matron. Police said that the matron was later shifted to the district hospital, Mapusa for treatment.
Colvale police have registered an offence against Jenet (Nigerian national) and Prishala (Ghana national) under Sections 353, 323 r/w 34 of the IPC for assaulting the matron. Further investigation is in progress.
