Gang involved in 48 snatching cases busted
Ludhiana: The CIA-II of Ludhiana police commissionerate claimed to have solved at least 48 cases of snatching with the arrest of four persons on Friday.
The police recovered 24 stolen mobile phones and seized two motorcycles, a car, two sharp-edged weapons and three iron rods from the accused, identified as Gurvinder Singh of Janakpuri, Aman Singh of Hari Kartar Colony, Jaspal Kumar of Islamganj and Kuldeep Kumar of Textile colony of Industrial Area A.
CIA officials said five members of the gang had gathered at Glada ground in Moti Nagar to hatch a conspiracy on robbery. Acting on a tip-off, the CIA team conducted a raid and arrested three accused while two others — Mohammad Mehmud of Ganesh Nagar and Amandeep Singh of Shimlapuri — managed to escape.
Deputy commissioner of police (investigation) Varinder Singh Brar said a team of CIA-II led by inspector Beant Juneja arrested Gurvinder, Aman and Jaspal from Glada ground at Chandigarh road with two motorcycles, a car, two sharp-edged weapons and three iron rods. During the questioning, the accused said they have executed at least 48 snatching incidents in the past couple of months. Their accomplice Kuldeep Kumar used to help them in storing the stolen stuff.
Later, police nominated Kuldeep Kumar in the FIR and arrested him. The police then seized 24 stolen mobile phones and a tab from Kuldeep’s possession.
ADCP (investigation) Rupinder Kaur Sra said the accused were active in division number 8 and Delhi road. With the festival season going on, the accused were getting easy targets. A case has been registered against the accused at Moti Nagar police station. The absconding accused are also being traced, she said.
