2nd phase of panchayat polls in 9 distts next month: CEC
Chandigarh: The Haryana State Election Commission on Friday announced details of the second phase of panchayati raj elections in Haryana. The commisson said the second phase of polls will be held in nine districts of the state. In related development, the process for filing nominations for the first phase began on Friday.
The commission said the panchayat elections will be held in three phases. Under the first two phases, elections will be held in 18 districts of the state. Details of the third phase polls, to be conducted for thew remaining four districts, will be released later.
In the second phase, voting for zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections will be held on November 9. The voting for electing panches and sarpanches will be held on November 12.
Nine districts which will go to polls in the second phased include Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Rohtak, Rewari, Gurugram, Sirsa, Sonipat and Charkhi Dadri.
Dhanpat Singh, who heads the state election commission, released the details chairing a meeting of departments involved in conducting the elections. Dhanpat said in the second ph ase, 48.67 lakh electors will be have the right to vote in 9 districts. These include 25.89 lakh men, 22.78 women, and 67 others.
There are 5,963 polling stations in these nine districts, including 976 sensitive and 1,023 hyper-sensitive.
There are 57 blocks in nine districts of Phase II. Of these, elections will be held for the post of 2,683 sarpanches, 25,655 panches, 1244 panchayat samitis, and 158 zila parishads.
