KALYAN: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the RERA scam by 66 developers in Kalyan-Dombivli on Friday added two non-bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code — 467 (forgery of a valuable security, will or authority) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) — after five of the builders managed to get relief from arrest till October 19 from Kalyan session court.
The minimum penalty under IPC Section 467 is 10 years’ jail and the maximum life term. With these two sections, the builders won’t get relief from court easily and will have to cooperate with the probe, said an officer.
Earlier this month, Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) had lodged acomplaint against 66 builders at two police stations in aforgery and cheating case. It claimed that the developers had obtained RERA certificates through fraud documents and sold the properties showing them as legal. The case was transferred to Thane crime branch and later the police chief formed a SIT to investigate the cases.
The RERA has suspended the registration of 52 builders based on the list provided by the KDMC.
