Cops finally get to fake DSP who conned job aspirants

Ludhiana: Khanna police have arrested a fake DSP who had allegedly cheated job seekers of lakhs of rupees on pretext of getting him a job. The accused was identified as Depreet Singh of Lalheri road in Khanna.
Khanna SP (Investigation) Dr Pragya Jain said in his statement, Lakhwinder Singh of Dhanur village in Machhiwara had claimed that he had been looking for a job when a fellow villager told him about a “DSP”, who could get him recruited as a constable in the police. On January 19, 2022, he had met Depreet at Machhiwara, who claimed himself as the DSP in CIA Staff Khanna and also showed him his official identity card.

Police officials said other people had also come to get jobs. Depreet asked Lakhwinder and others to pay Rs 3 lakh per person to join Punjab Police as constables. As per the complainant, he and other persons collected Rs 20,000 each and gave a total of Rs 1 lakh the accused.
Cops said the accused also gave him an affidavit regarding recruitment of constables in Punjab Police till March 20. They added that the accused Depreet received Rs 18,000 from Lakhwinder Singh and others through Google Pay and took Rs 38,000 more on May 4 and gave an affidavit to get them recruited in the police by June 2 at Samrala court.
Police officials said as per the complainant, the fake DSP also mailed him and others regarding recruitment and joining letter and PMT slip were also given in relation to recruitment. But the accused neither got them recruited in police nor returned the money.
In the meanwhile, Lakhwinder came to know that the accused was not a DSP, but only a cheater who was duping people on the pretext of providing him jobs. He and others gave a complaint to the police against the accused and his unknown accomplices.
SP Pragya Jain said a team under the leadership of DSP Samrala Wariyam Singh and Machhiwara SHO Vinod Kumar investigated the matter. She said following the investigation, Depreet was arrested and fake I-card of DSP, Rs 10,000 and DSP rank uniform were recovered from him.
Jain said the accused will be interrogated after obtaining police remand from the court. She added that they will probe about the other accused involved in the illegal act.
