Manipur draws up plans for Population Commission; rescind benefits for families with 4+ kids

The state cabinet led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh approved the establishment of the Manipur State Population Commission as an ordinance and further decided that no government benefits will be provided to a family that has more than four children.

Manipur government has decided to form a population Commission and families with more than four children will be barred from government benefits.

The state cabinet has decided that there will not be any government benefits for families with more than four children. The state cabinet led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh approved the establishment of the Manipur State Population Commission as an ordinance and further decided that no government benefits will be provided to a family that has more than four children.

An official in the state government, who does not want to be named, told ET, " if any couple has more than four children, no government benefits will be provided to any member of the family, once the decision is implemented".

The state legislative assembly has earlier unanimously adopted as a private member resolution to establish the population commission of the state. Manipur has a population of 28.56 lakh.
