MADURAI: The Dindigul police detained two people under the National Security Act for torching the vehicles of a BJP functionary in Kudaiparaipatti area. The Goondas Act was invoked on four others who were arrested for robbery.
S Sikkanthar, 29, Mohamed Iliyaz, 29, Habib Rahman, 27, Mohammad Rabik, 29 of Begampur were arrested by the Dindigul Town South police for torching a four-wheeler and five motorcycles of BJP functionary Balraj of Kudaiparaipatti on September 24. Balraj was running a consultancy selling four-wheelers and motorcycles. The incident happened after NIA raided several houses of Popular Front of India functionaries. These four were produced before the court and were remanded.
Based on the recommendations of Dindigul SP V Baskaran, collector S Visakan ordered the detention of Sikkanthar and Mohamed Iliyaz under the
NSA.
Maharaja, 28, of Tirupur, Rahul alias Mariappan, 32 and M Rahul, 29 of Periakalaiyamuthur in Palani and M Muthupandi, 30 of Krishnapuram followed one Sakthivel of Dharapuram while he was returning after collecting the cash dues in brick sales in Palani area. They snatched away Rs 3 lakh and a gold chain from Sakthivel at knifepoint. The Keeranur police registered a case and arrested all four of them.
These four were booked under Goondas Act based on the orders of collector S Visakan as recommended by Dindigul SP V Baskaran to control their anti-social activities.
