Poor medal tally at National Games shows govt’s failure: Cong
Panaji: The state Congress unit criticised the BJP government over “below par performance of Goan sportspersons” at the recently-concluded 36th National Games.
“Goa ranked at the bottom three in medals tally due to the state’s government’s failure to provide coaching and training to our athletes,” said Goa Congress president, Amit Patkar.
“Chief minister Pramod Sawant and sports minister Govind Gaude must explain why Goan athletes fared poorly at the National Games,” said Patkar.
He alleged that sub-standard work of infrastructure created for the national games in Goa at the cost of Rs450 crore has exposed the “mission commission” of the BJP government.
“Congress had earlier said that shifting of the Games to Gujarat was a blessing in disguise for Goa. We have been proved right by the results,” said Patkar.
The state Congress president added that the party was proud of the athletes who performed well and won five bronze medals in various disciplines at the recently concluded National Games held across five cities in Gujarat.
