College student suffers burn injuries while celebrating birthday in Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: A college student suffered 35% of burn injuries while celebrating his birthday with his friends at Gandhipuram in Coimbatore city in the early hours of Friday.
The injured student has been identified as T Shankar Ganesh, 22, of Kanakkampatyi in Salem. He celebrated his birthday with his friends in front of a mansion around 12.10am on Friday.
His friends sprayed party foam on him while he was cutting a cake. The foam came in contact with a candle and caught fire. The fire spread to the clothes. He suffered burn injuries on his abdomen, thighs and both hands. His friends put out the fire and sent him to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Ganesh is a fourth year BE (EEE) student in KSR College of Engineering at Tiruchengode in Namakkal district. Ganesh and his seven classmates have been staying in a mansion at Gandhipuram in Coimbatore since September 22 as they were doing an internship programme here.
