KOLKATA: A day after a 63-year-old man was injured in Entally by a bullet meant for a person involved in local syndicate business, police on Thursday nabbed the main accused. Sujoy Das alias Neto was arrested from the eastern suburbs of the city.
"It primarily looks like Sujoy's target was another local syndicate member. But the bullet hit Ratan Kumar Sadhukan, a grocery shop owner," said an officer.
Two local criminals - Sujoy and his present rival, both from Malipara and currently trying to control a portion of Entally - might be involved in the shooting. Locals said both gangs have been spotted recently moving around with arms.
"The two were once the best of friends. They have multiple cases against them. They joined the construction material supply business but parted ways soon. Recently, they got involved in a fracas during immersions and one of them threatened the other using arms. Tuesday's firing was a revenge attack," said a police officer.
