Illegal structures near Jakhau port demolished
Rajkot: The Kutch district administration and police have started a drive to remove illegal structures near Jakhau port, which are considered a threat to the coastal security. The demolition drive started on Wednesday and will continue for the next couple of days.
This drive is a part of an exercise being undertaken in various coastal districts across the state, including Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar and Gir Somnath districts.
The police have identified over 700 structures erected near Jakhau port and around 200 of them have been demolished in the last two days. Some of these structures are cold storages and multi-storey buildings. Some residents had also started collecting rent on these illegal structures.
Kutch (west) superintendent of police Saurabh Singh told TOI, “Jakhau coast is near IMBL and it is vulnerable for coastal security. Because of illegal constructions, small boats can come without getting noticed.”
The police and district administration had been serving notices to these illegal occupants over last one year. The police have made heavy deployment to avoid any untoward incident.
After Jakhau, the administration will remove illegal structures in other coastal areas in Kutch.
