RINPAS chief’s car seized in ‘accident’ case

Ranchi: Police have seized the car of director of Ranchi Institute of Neuro Psychiatry and Allied Sciences (RINPAS) Dr Jayati Simlai for inspection in connection with an accident case in which a patient died in April 2022.
Simlai had allegedly hit the person, Mehr-un-Nisha, on the RINPAS campus leading to the latter’s death at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences. The patient, who was sitting on a tree branch, fell in front of the car driven by Simlai after the branch broke. Simlai was then a senior doctor when the incident happened. The case in this regard was registered in September on the direction of chief judicial magistrate after a person approached the court.
Headquarter DSP Neeraj Kumar said, “We are investigating the case but it is quite challenging to gather evidences. The CCTV footages may not be available. We have the post-mortem report.”
