3 of a family, including cop, killed in clash in Bharatpur
Jaipur: A Rajasthan Police commando was among three men of a family killed in a violent clash between two different families of Pathena village in Bhusawar in Bharatpur district on Thursday.
IG (Bharatpur) Gaurav Shrivastava said the victims were identified as police commando Hemant Singh, his brother Kishan Singh and their father Bijendra Singh. “Kishan was posted in the ERT (Emergency Response Team). His brother Yaduraj Singh, also a police constable, was injured in the clash,” he said, adding that two of the assailants were quickly rounded up.
Bharatpur police officials said the clash took place sometime in the evening and that gunshots were heard in the village. Two rival groups of the same caste had been at loggerheads over some petty dispute lingering for a long time, said police. While the genesis of the dispute is under investigation, officials said neither side ever filed any complaint against the other in the past.
On Thursday, however, the situation turned violent when both warring groups came face to face during an altercation. “Both groups attacked each other with iron rods and also opened fire,” said an official.
Police suspect that the victims may also have fired on their rivals because two of the injured from their rival group have firearms wounds. Police moved a reserve deployment to the scene as soon as information of the violence broke out. The situation in the village is currently normal, said an official.
“An FIR has been registered in the case. A team of forensic experts was also moved to the area to collect samples from the place where the two groups fought with each other,” added the official.
Police said additional police personnel are stationed in the area and efforts are on to ascertain what caused the flare-up leading to the firing.
