RANCHI: The Jharkhand unit of BJP on Wednesday claimed that nearly 50% of all the panchayat representatives, who were elected in the panchayat elections which were held in the state earlier this year, are their party members.
The state unit of the party also announced that it will organise a Panchayat Pratinidhi Samman Samaroh in Ranchi’s Harmu Maidan on October 18 to honour the newly elected panchayat members.
“Out of the 9,000-odd newly elected members of the zila parishad, panchayat mukhiyas and panchayat samiti members in the state, nearly 50% are BJP karyakartas. Although the panchayat elections were not held on party symbols, our party workers managed to bring in the BJP’s Gaon Ki Sarkar through their proactiveness and commitment to the people. Hence, it has been decided to honour them in Ranchi on October 18 at a function,” BJP said in a statement quoting its state president Deepak Prakash. Panchayat elections in Jharkhand, which were due since 2020, were held in four phases in May.
The BJP camp said the victory of a significant number of candidates who pledge their political allegiance to the saffron party will come in handy for the 2024 Lok Sabha and state assembly polls for building grassroots voters’ connect.
Speaking on the occasion of the meeting of its office-bearers of the state unit, Prakash criticised the Hemant Soren government’s Sarkar Apke Dwar programme which was kicked off from Giridih on Wednesday. “A Rs 1,000-crore scam has been unearthed from a single district and the CM has misused his office for personal gains. The state highways are in poor condition, PDS is a failure and government hospitals do not have doctors and nurses,” Prakash said.
