Coimbatore school children taught how to make manure with kitchen waste
COIMBATORE: An awareness programme on composting organic waste and segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste was held for students of classes VI to VIII at the Coimbatore Corporation Middle School in Subramaniampalayam on Wednesday.
The school children were taught how to make manure with kitchen waste. This was demonstrated with a month- old compost bin made by Aishwarya Dev, founder and managing trustee of Avira Foundation, Coimbatore.
There was an interactive session with the children on how this bin works and the types of waste to use for the compost, like citric fruits. The programme ended with children taking an oath.
The event was conducted by Avira Foundation, a nonprofit organisation working towards the betterment of the society by conducting workshops, awareness programmes and helping those in need. Corporation’s 15th ward councillor Santhamani, sanitary inspector T Jegenathan and the school students and students from visual communication department of PSG College of Arts and Science participated in the programme.
