Mangalore University PG admissions to happen despite UG evaluation issues
MU officials fear that further delay in the notification for PG admissions will result in the varsity losing students
MANGALURU: Even as Mangalore University is having issues with the evaluation of answer scripts, for the recently concluded second, fourth and sixth semester undergraduate examinations, the registrar’s office has decided to issue a notification for PG admissions.
The university is ready with all the necessary materials required for the PG notification, which will be announced through the Unified University and College Management System (UUCMS). Kishore CK, registrar, Mangalore University, said, that if all goes well, the notification may be issued in a week or two.
MANGALURU:As per the academic calendar of events for postgraduate studies, the PG classes will start on November 14. In this regard, we have kept ready all the required documents for the PG notification, which includes e-prospectus and others. Once we receive the green signal, the same is published through UUCMS,” said Kishore.
During the pre-Covid days, PG classes used to commence by August. Officials at MU fear that any further delay in the notification for PG admissions, will result in the university losing students to other universities. Kishore said that it is true that deferment results in candidates moving elsewhere.
Already, autonomous colleges under MU have started PG courses. “UG results in other universities have already been announced. With this development, we cannot lose students at any cost for our PG programmes. Registrar (evaluation) PL Dharma has informed that the sixth semester results will be announced, latest by the first week of November,” said Kishore.
It is learnt that the number of PG candidates at the Konaje campus is dwindling every year. A delay in the start of PG courses will have a further impact on admissions. PG courses at the Mangalagangothri campus were able to attract 1,266 candidates in 2020, out of a total intake of 2,089.
Last year, the admissions fell to 1,186, out of a total intake of 2,130. MU conducted a special admission drive last year, but it was not able to fill up seats. The situation is similar at the university’s other three PG campuses.
