Surat: Body of the missing embroidery unit owner was found in Tapi river waters near Jahangirpura area.
Deceased Chirag Parekh had posted a suicide note on his Facebook page wherein he blamed the pressure on him to repay debt as the reason behind his drastic step of taking his own life.
A resident of Utran area, the 27-year-old had gone missing since Tuesday morning. After their searches failed to locate him, his family approached the police and lodged a missing persons report. Meanwhile, the family members also found his suicide note and alerted the police.
The family members also revealed that Parekh was involved in dabba trading as well and may have incurred heavy losses. He had a debt of around Rs 3 crore, cops said.
In his suicide note, Parekh claimed that he had paid off Rs 2 crore but some people were demanding more.
“It is not clear how much debt the deceased was under. We are questioning his family and all others connected to him to find out exact details. Based on the findings, a fresh offence will be registered,” said Utran police.
Police will examine call data records to find out with whom Parekh had regular contacts, and if he had received threat calls to recover the debt money.
