Anand: Cops seize liquor worth Rs 34 lakh from container truck on national highway

VADODARA/ANAND: Anand police on Wednesday seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 34.8 lakh from a container that was stationed in a parking lot on a highway hotel.
According to the police sources, cops received a tip off that a container loaded with IMFL was moving on the Dharmaj-Tarapur national highway and started checking trucks and containers on the national highway.
During patrolling, when cops searched a container that was found to be parked on Aashirwad hotel’s parking lot on the outskirts of Ramodadi village on the national highway, they unearthed the boxes of IMFL.
According to the police, the container driver told the police that he vehicle was ferrying medicines. Cops have also seized fake bills from the container.
Cops have arrested Kanaram Bhallaram Jhakhad (Jat), a resident of Rajasthan’s Badmer area, for possession of the illicit liquor. In total, cops have made a seizure to the tune of Rs 49.9 lakh including 4,732 bottles of IMFL worth Rs 34.8 lakh, mobile phone along with the container truck.
An offence was lodged against the accused at Petlad rural police station and cops are investigating the matter further.
