Ludhiana: Involved in several firing incidents and gang wars in the city, notorious criminal Vishal Gill finally landed in the police net on Wednesday.
The CIA-1 of Ludhiana police commissionerate arrested Gill (25) with an illegal pistol of .32 bore and two live cartridges. Gill had come out on a bail in April following which he had been involved in at least four cases.
The Ludhiana police commissioner said now the focus of the police probe is to know who had been financially helping Gill in buying weapons and where he was taking shelter after executing crimes.
Gill, alias Vishal Jacob of Amarpura area, is a member of Puneet Bains gang. Bains is also wanted by Ludhiana police in several criminal cases.
Police commissioner Dr Kaustubh Sharma said Gill was arrested from near Dhandari bridge of Sahnewal area following a tip-off. He had allegedly used .32 bore pistol to fire at his rival Raja Bajaj near Neela Jhanda Gurdwara in division number 3 on September 7. “Gill was on our radar as he and his gang members have been creating ruckus in different areas of division number 2, division number 3 and division number 7 police stations,” the top cop added.
Sharma said Gill had a long criminal background. He was first booked in a murder case, registered at Haibowal police station, when he was a juvenile. His involvement in these criminal cases was mostly an outcome of rivalry between his gang and Shubham Arora group. They have attacked each other on numerous occasions, the commissioner said.
“The accused has also admitted after executing crimes in the city, he used to escape to Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. We are probing how the accused used to get financial support to buy weapons and find accommodation in other states. The initial probe suggests that he has been getting financial help from his family and some gang members too. Further probe is on,” he added.
Deputy commissioner of police (investigation) Varinder Singh Brar said during interrogation, Gill revealed that he had procured the weapon from a person in Kanpur area for Rs 50,000 along with 30 cartridges. The police will further trace the weapon seller. Vishal revealed that he had brought three weapons, which all have been seized.”
