Ramgarh: Police on Tuesday lodged an FIR against the Ajsu party’s Giridih MP Chandra Prakash Choudhary for attempting to forcibly install a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on the land of a local resident despite the latter’s objections.
Vinod Kumar, who holds close to five decimal land next to NH 33 stretch in Patel Chowk, on Monday lodged a complaint with the Ramgarh town police station alleging that Choudhary and his supporters had forcibly tried to install Patel’s statue on his land by performing ‘bhumi pujan’ on the plot without his consent on Sunday. Based on Kumar’s complaint, the police lodged an FIR against Choudhary on Tuesday with the town police station.
Patel’s statue had been removed from Patel Chowk a year ago by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to make way for the construction of a four-lane flyover on the NH 33 stretch.
“When Vinod resisted, Choudhary and his men beat him, his family and several Congress workers who had assembled at the spot on Sunday to resist the bhumi pujan. It was a deliberate attempt to encroach the land,” Congress party’s Ramgarh district president Munna Paswan alleged.
While Choudhary did not respond to TOI’s calls, Ajsu party’s Ramgarh president Dilip Dangi called the allegations baseless.
Soon after, the local administration imposed prohibitory orders in and around the disputed patch of land on Sunday. “Section 144 has been imposed on the land adjacent to the NH 33 to maintain peace in the area,” SDPO Mohammad Javed Hussain said.
