Berhampur: Police have recovered several firearms, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other articles from the forest area in Kandhamal district where a woman Maoist was killed in an exchange of fire with security forces on Tuesday. The deceased woman Maoist is yet to be identified.
The police recovered a 12-bore country-made gun, 12-bore cartridges (13), one gelatin stick, two IEDs and a detonator, magazine pouch (2) and some amount of explosives. Besides, several belongings of the Maoists, including haversacks (3), radio, Maoist uniforms, electric wire, medicines, innerwear, and Maoist literature were recovered from the area near Kanasaju village under Baliguda police station.
Senior police officers, including IG (operations) Amitabh Thakur, director (intelligence) Sanjib Kumar Panda and CRPF 127 Battalion commandant BN Jha on Wednesday reached Phulbani and held a meeting to work out a strategy to flush out the Maoists. “Combing operation was further intensified since the rebels might be hiding in nearby areas after the encounter,” said Thakur. The police said around 20 ultras might have been in the camp.
