Hyderabad: Actor arrested for raping woman on pretext of marriage

HYDERABAD: Jubilee Hills police arrested a 30-year-old actor for allegedly sexually exploiting a junior artiste by cheating her under the pretext of marriage. The accused allegedly terminated the woman’s pregnancy by giving her unknown pills.
On July 9, 2022, the survivor lodged a complaint with the police alleging that she met the accused seven years ago during a film shoot when she was residing in Venkatagiri at her sister's house. Two months after meeting the survivor, the accused expressed his liking towards her and promised to marry her.
In January 2022, when she was at her native place, the survivor informed him that she was pregnant. He took her to a hospital in Madhapur. After the pregnancy was confirmed, he gave her some pills saying that they were for her other ailments and two days later, her pregnancy was terminated, police said.
Subsequently, the survivor came to know that the accused was already married and also has a daughter. When she confronted him, he promised to divorce his wife. When she started pressuring for marriage, the accused threatened her with dire consequences. Police registered a case under sections 417, 420, 376(2), 313 of the IPC and section 3 (2) (V) of SC & ST (POA) Act.
Banjara Hills ACP M Sudarshan said the accused has been arrested and sent to judicial remand.
