Rains recede but Surat reels from spell of wet weather

Surat: Even as monsoon has officially receded from the state, several parts of the city reeled under wet weather on Tuesday, catching citizens unaware.
The sudden spell of rain sent commuters scurrying for cover under trees. In a few minutes, nearly 25mm rainfall was recorded in the Athwa area.
The afternoon rainfall affected school vehicles and many buses and vans transporting students were trapped in a jam. Snarls were reported at some crossroads due to sudden swell in the number of four-wheelers.
Meanwhile, nearly 22,000 cusec water continued to flow in Ukai dam from upstream while the same volume was discharged for hydropower plant.
Water level in Ukai was over 345.30 feet, above the maximum level.
