DHARWAD: Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday remarked on the power of the Dharwad peda, a sweet that his colleague Pralhad Joshi has used to maximum effect to get work done for
Karnataka.
“Dharwad is well known for its excellence in literature, music, education and cultural fields and it is also famous for its peda,” Vaishnaw said. “The Dharwad peda is very powerful and Union minister for parliamentary affairs Pralad Joshi knows too well how to use its power,” he joked. “He gets government projects sanctioned for Karnataka and his constituency by offering the magical Dharwad peda to the concerned authorities and ministers.”
In his 15-minute speech, Vaishnaw was all praise to the famous sweet and described Dharwad as a sacred place that was home to world-renowned musicians and literary stalwarts. “The people of Dharwad have given me peda, and now I am committed to gifting you the Vande Bharat train,” he said.
The minister, who also holds the electronics and communications portfolio, said that the 5G network service implementation had begun and services would be offered in Hubballi-Dharwad in the first phase.
He said that 5G would be a game changer and take society to a new level of digital services. Joshi felicitated Vaishnaw and offered him pedas.
