Kalaburagi: The proposal to fell 249 trees to carve out a service road along the stretch of the Ring Road between Hirapur Cross and Aland Checkpost has raised the hackles of the residents of Kalaburagi.
The residents are upset with the PWD for not considering alternative methods.
Pointing out that Kalaburagi was dubbed ‘Sun City’ owing to the scorching heat that was nigh perennial, the residents said that the trees along the Ring Road had been planted 20 years ago to shield themselves from the searing heat.
The PWD appears to be oblivious of the sentiment, and has felled many trees on the 2.5-km stretch, which the residents said, had ruined the cool, verdant environment.
