GEF India to invest Rs 400cr in 1000 MTPD edible oil refinery near Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Edible oils and fats manufacturer Gemini Edibles & Fats India Ltd (GEF India) is investing Rs 400 crore in setting up an edible oil refinery near Kothur on Hyderabad’s outskirts.
The proposed plant will have a capacity for refining about 1,000 metric tonnes per day of multiple oils like palm, sunflower and rice bran and is expected to create around 1,000 jobs, GEF India managing director Pradeep Chowdhry said.
The company is scouting for land and is likely to finalise the location over the next few weeks, Chowdhry said, adding that construction could start in six months after which the commissioning would take another year.
The proposed greenfield facility will be GEF India’s first in Telangana as currently all its facilities are located along ports in Krishnapatnam and Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.
GEF India, which makes edible oils under the Freedom brand, is a joint venture set up by Singapore’s Golden Agri International (GAR) and Chowdhry, who met Telangana industries minister KT Rama Rao on Wednesday and apprised him of the company’s plans.
Welcoming the investment, KTR said the investment would play a key role in ushering in a yellow revolution in Telangana which is targeting an ambitious 20 lakh acres of palm oil cultivation.
