THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Tuesday that the two murders in Elanthoor have shaken human conscience. Vijayan said that only those who have a sick mind can indulge in such activities and such customs can only be seen as a challenge to a civilized society.
Congratulating the police, the chief minister said that the details of this heinous act came out during the course of investigation in a missing person case that was registered at Kadavanthra police station on September 26. The accused have already given a statement that the act was committed as part of a superstitious belief and the cautious approach taken by the police during investigation uncovered this double murder, he said.
"Killing people for satisfying superstitious beliefs and acquiring wealth is something unimaginable for the state's society. Along with legal action, societal caution also has to be exercised. Each one of us should come forward and realize the facts about such trends and bring them to the notice of civil society," he said, adding that a foolproof investigation is progressing and all those who were involved in the crime will be brought to book.
Health and family welfare minister Veena George, who also represents Pathanamthitta constituency where the two women were murdered and buried by the accused, said the incident is shocking, cruel and scary. She added that the government will take strong action and such incidents should never have happened in a civilized society.
