BENGALURU: Nineteen youths, including 14 minor boys, were arrested for allegedly dancing with machetes and swords during Eid Milad celebrations in Someshwaranagar, Siddapura, south Bengaluru, on the night of October 9.
DCP (south) P Krishnakant said a police team acted against the suspects after a video of the celebrations went viral on social media. After an alert from residents, the team rushed to the spot on October 9, but the revellers fled the scene on hearing the police siren. The next day, based on the video and with the help of CCTV footage, the suspects were arrested.
No untoward incidents were reported, nor did the suspects have ulterior motives like attacking someone, Krishnakant said. "We will hand over the 14 minors to the juvenile board. As for the 5 youths, we are checking if they were involved in any cases," the officer said. The suspects were booked under the Arms Act besides unlawful assembly and disturbing public peace .
