20 sovereigns of gold stolen from house
Coimbatore: Unidentified people broke into a house at Mahalakshmi Nagar in Neelikonampalayam on Sunday and looted 19.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments. The Singanallur police have formed a special team to nab the burglars.
Police said R Gopal, 49, a carpenter, his wife K Selvi, 34, and their two children are residing in the house. Selvi and the children had gone to a relative’s house in Karur on Saturday and stayed there.
“On Sunday morning, Gopal went to work after locking the house. When his wife returned home in the afternoon, she found that the front door was broken open and gold ornaments, including aaram, chains, bangles, bracelets and a coin, kept in the house were missing. She, immediately, informed her husband,” a police officer said.
After being alerted, police sub-inspector P Selvakumar and others came to the spot. Forensic experts collected evidence from the scene. A case was registered under sections 380 and 454 of the Indian Penal Code.
