GURUGRAM: GMDA has formed a committee to remove squatters along its master roads after receiving several complaints about encroachments in green belts.
The three-member committee will remove temporary encroachments from areas under GMDA’s jurisdiction. It will also identify permanent encroachments and submit the details to the civic body concerned seeking their removal.
GMDA’s core planning cell conducted a meeting on Tuesday, in which complaints about encroachment in green belts were raised.
Chief executive officer (CEO) Sudhir Rajpal sought details from the officials about removal of squatters but failed to get a satisfactory reply as there is no clarity on who is responsible for removal of encroachments.
An official said as per the GMDA Act, the CEO can issue directions to different agencies and district administration for removal of encroachments, but the metropolitan authority has no power to issue notices to remove encroachment. It was then suggested that GMDA form a committee for resolution of such complaints.
The issue related to inadequate supply of water in certain areas was also raised. GMDA is also going to direct all licensed private colonies in sectors 58-115 to increase their internal water storage capacity. At present, the societies can store water needed for up to 12 hours and need supply from GMDA twice a day.
