NASHIK: The number of dengue cases in the city in the last nine days is fewer as compared to the cases last month.
Nashik city reported 27 dengue cases between October 1 and 9 against the 81 cases recorded during the same period in September. The total number of cases in the city between January 1 and October 9 this year has reached 338 cases, against 833 cases during the same period in 2021.
The health officials of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) said though the city has reported dengue cases in the first nine days of October, the cases are fewer as compared to the cases reported during this period last month.
“We have been taking measures to find and destroy mosquito breeding spots in the city, which have led to a drop in dengue cases,” he said.
The city had reported only 23 cases in July and 99 cases d in August, while 139 cases were recorded in September.
NMC officials said there has been intermittent rain since July. As a result, water accumulation in various places due to rain has led to a rise in mosquito breeding spots and the number of cases started increasing.
“But the intensity of the rain has reduced this month. We are also taking several measures to ensure mosquito breeding spots are not created and we have been continuously appealing to the city residents in this connection,” said an NMC official.
“We have also started slapping a fine of Rs 200 each if a breeding spot is found in residential and commercial premises in the city. Moreover, we have also deployed squads of health employees to find and destroy mosquito breeding spots in the city,” said the official.
