3 youths die as car rams truck from behind near Dharmapuri
Dharmapuri: Three people were killed and two others injured after a car in which they were travelling rammed a truck from behind near Savulur on the Salem-Bengaluru national highway on Sunday night.
The deceased were identified as V Rahul, 22, M Santhosh, 15, and A Jeevabharathi, 21, all hailing from Kumarasamy Pettai in Dharmapuri.
D Kaviarasan, 24, hired a car from his relative to go for a joyride with his friends Rahul, Santhosh, Jeevabharathi and J Karthik, 23. Kaviarasan was at the wheel.
When the car reached Savulur bridge on the Salem-Bengaluru national highway, Kaviarasan lost control of the vehicle and rammed a truck from behind.
“Rahul and Santhosh succumbed to their injuries on the spot,” an officer from the Dharmapuri town police station said. Jeevabharathi, Kaviarasan and Karthik sustained injuries.
The injured were rushed to the Dharmapuri district government medical college and hospital for treatment. Doctors at the hospital declared Jeevabharathi as brought dead.
“Kaviarasan and Karthik were referred to a private hospital in Coimbatore for further treatment,” the officer said, adding that their condition is said to be stable.
The traffic was affected for two hours on the stretch. Police cleared the traffic after removing the vehicles involved in the accident.
The Dharmapuri town police registered a case and initiated an inquiry.
