Ludhiana: In a major panic situation, a miscreant allegedly tried to rob a woman while pointing a knife at her 3-year-old son outside a prominent playway school on Malhar road on Monday. The school security foiled the attempt and nabbed the miscreant after the woman shouted for help.
The kin of woman suspected that kidnapping the child might have been ultimate motive of the accused.

The accused was given a sound thrashing before being handed over to the police. Later, police arrested the accused and booked him under Sections 379-B (2) (Causing hurt, or wrongful restraint or fear of hurt in committing snatching) and 511 (attempt to commit an offence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Speaking to TOI, the father of the 3-year-old boy said, “My wife had gone to pick our son from the school around 12.15pm on Monday. She went inside the school and came out with him. As soon as they sat inside their car, the accused sneaked in through the rear door and kept a knife on our son’s neck. As soon as my wife saw it, she raised an alarm. She started screaming for help following which the school security guards rushed to the spot. The accused tried to escape on his scooter, but the security nabbed him and kept him in custody till the cops arrived.”
On asking about the intention of the accused, the father said, “I don’t know if the accused wanted to kidnap our son or rob my wife, only the police will be able to confirm it.”
Inspector Jasbir Singh, SHO, Division number 5 police station, said, “The accused was taken into police custody where he said that he needed money for the marriage of her sister-in-law (wife’s sister) scheduled a few days later. The initial probe suggested that the accused wanted to rob the woman and had no intent of kidnapping the child.”
The cop said the accused earlier worked as a driver with a family whose son studied in the same play way school. He, therefore, had an idea who he could target outside the school. The accused has been arrested and a case has been lodged against him, police said.
