GURUGRAM The Urban Local Bodies (ULB) department has directed the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) to cancel the tender awarded to two private agencies for mechanical road sweeping, drain desilting and uprooting weeds and bushes. The cost of the project was nearly Rs 110 crore and the contract duration was two years in which all seven zones of Manesar had to be covered by two agencies.
MCM officials said that they are dependent on local labourers to get the work done on the basis of complaints received. The officials were also directed to float a new tender which they said would take at least a month’s time, due to which the residents will suffer.
“I have been directed by the competent authority to inform you to cancel the tender of street sweeping, drain-desiltation and bush uprooting in division-1 (Zone 1, 2, 3 and 4) division-2 (Zone 5, 6 and 7) of MCM for the contract period of two years and recall a fresh tender immediately,” read the order sent by the ULB department to MCM.
Officials said that the tender was floated in June and closed on August 31. Two agencies were selected and the proposal was then sent to the state government, for rate approval, after which it was cancelled. The officials said that the entire process will have to be repeated. Four private agencies were deployed on quotation basis in Manesar in April last year and their term got over after which the tender was floated in June this year. In the absence of a dedicated agency, officials said local workers are deployed and the work is done only on the basis of requirement.
