AHMEDABAD: A 32-year-old woman from Gandhinagar, who is pursuing PhD in Gujarat University, has accused her in-laws of dowry harassment and domestic abuse. In a complaint filed against them with Chandkheda police on Sunday, she alleged that they would keep demanding a car and ornaments from her and ill-treat even her son.
She alleged that the dowry harassment began within 10 days of her marriage. Her complaint stated that when she got pregnant, the in-laws allegedly sent her off to her parents' place, saying there was no one to take care of her.
When her son fell sick, the in-laws did not take him to the hospital and she was forced to call up her father who took the child to the doctor, the complaint alleged. She also alleged that her father-in-law used to abuse her son too.
She once left her husband's house and went to her parents when she was allegedly assaulted. However, following a compromise, she returned but the harassment continued. Her sister-in-law allegedly taunted her saying she could not do the household work properly.
Her complaint stated that the in-laws also abused her saying she did not offer them even a glass of water when they were down with Covid. On April 14, her son fell ill again and when she asked her husband to take him to the hospital, he allegedly assaulted her.
The complaint stated that on September 30, her father-in-law performed black magic and she decided to leave the in-laws' house and move to her parents' house. She later filed a police complaint against her in-laws.
