Nagpur: Residents of east Nagpur led by former three-time BJP corporator Narendra Borkar on Monday locked the office of Lakadganj zone over low pressure water supply.
Borkar threatened to launch an indefinite hunger strike outside municipal commissioner Radhakrishnan B’s chamber in Civil Lines if the NMC and Orange City Water (OCW) Limited do not resolve the issue within three days. An OCW spokesperson said the problem will be sorted out.
Borkar told TOI that several areas under ward number 23, like Satnami Nagar, Danaganj, Shahu Mohalla, Small Factory Area, Bhaurao Nagar, Kumbhartoli, Shastri Nagar, Hivari Nagar, Garoba Maidan Jagjivanram Nagar, Dutt Nagar, etc have been getting low pressure water.
“Since the last one and a half months, I have been complaining about this issue which has created resentment among citizens,” he claimed. The claim was corroborated by a technical team that visited these localities and admitted that water was being supplied at low pressure.
This has created dissatisfaction among the citizens of these localities, he pointed out wondering why only the areas from where he was representing until the dissolution of the general body in March this year, are facing the water crisis. According to him, the low-pressure water supply is part of a conspiracy hatched against me. “Conspirators allegedly trying to defame me before the upcoming civic polls,” he said.
According to Borkar, the problem started after the abrupt transfer of two officials assigned to oversee water supply in this part of the city.
To a query, the former BJP corporator said that there was no water scarcity this summer when many parts of the city, including south and north Nagpur, faced shortage. “I want the OCW and NMC to improve the water supply system without any further delay,” he demanded and sounded a warning. “If the issue is not resolved, I will resort to an indefinite hunger strike from October 17,” he said.
