7 booked, 1 arrested after video clip shows man thrashed by woman’s kin
Jaipur: A day after a video clip showing a 23-year-old man being beaten up black and blue went viral, Gogameri police in Hanumangarh district on Monday lodged a case of assault against seven people and arrested one of the accused.
It was found in the preliminary investigation that the youth had been harassing a married woman for a long time by frequently calling her on her mobile phone. It was also found that the woman’s relatives, including her uncle and cousins, were behind the assault on him. The man arrested is the woman’s uncle, said police.
The video clip went viral on Sunday. “It was found that the video was shot on September 29 and both the parties – the youth and those who beat him up – later sat for a compromise and did not tell us about the incident. We identified the victim man in the video as Subash, a resident of Badbirana village under Gogameri police station of Hanumangarh,” said circle inspector Ajay Kumar.
Police found Subash had been harassing the married woman for a long time. “He and the woman had exchanged mobile phone numbers six month ago when she had come to her parental village. He had been repeatedly calling her since. The woman’s in-laws informed about it to her parents. On September 29, they brought her to her parental house and asked her to call up Subash for a meeting. When he came, he was surrounded by her relatives and beaten up. They also shot a video of the assault,” said Kumar.
Both the families had even approached the village panchayat, in which Subash was asked to apologise and swear not to repeat the act. He vowed not to do it again.
“However, after the video clip went viral, we received the complaint about it from the youth’s relatives and lodged an FIR. On Monday, we arrested one Kishan Thori, 32, the uncle of the married woman. Others named in the FIR are Ravindra Mothsara, 39, Ramesh Thori, 31, Subash, 34, Satpal, 35, Sonu Nayak, 30, and Lala, 33. We are raiding different places to arrest all the accused,” added Kumar.
