KALLAKURICHI: A 35-year-old man has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting his eight-year-old daughter for the past six months in a village in Kallakurichi district of
Tamil Nadu.
Kallakurichi all-woman police inspector P Bhuvaneshwari said the man, a truck driver, and a teacher in a private school in a village in the district got married in 2011 after a love affair. A baby girl was born to them in May 2014.
A couple of years ago, the woman left the teaching profession and joined a nationalized bank in neighbouring Salem district as an insurance advisor. She used to stay in Salem district and visit her family during weekends.
The girl, presently eight years old, is a Class IV student in a private school. She was staying with her father and her grandmother. Her father stopped going to work six months ago and stayed at home.
He started sexually assaulting the girl whenever her mother and grandmother were not at home. During her last visit, the woman noticed that her daughter was always tired and sad. She asked her what was bothering her. The daughter broke down and revealed that her father was sexually assaulting her whenever she was alone at home.
"The girl told her mother that her father had sexually assaulted her around 15 times in the last six months. She said the same during police inquiries and medical examinations. The medical examinations also proved that she was sexually assaulted," said the inspector.
The police booked him under sections 5 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault), 5 (l) (whoever commits penetrative sexual assault on the child more than once or repeatedly), 5 (m) (whoever commits penetrative sexual assault on a child below 12 years), 5 (n) (whoever being a relative of the child through blood commits penetrative sexual assault on such child) and 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012 and Section 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him.
He was remanded in judicial custody.
