‘Follow the ideals of Valmiki’
Mysuru: Former minister and MLA G T Devegowda called upon youths to follow the ideals and path of Maharshi Valmiki. He was speaking after inaugurating Maharshi Valmiki Jayanthi celebrations organised jointly by the district administration, district Nayaka community organisations held at Kalamandir in the city on Sunday.
Devegowda said that Valmiki, who was the author of Ramayana, propagated the victory of good over evil. This great epic has taught the way of life to people, and also inspired millions of people with its moral and ethical values, he said.
The MLA said that former prime minister H D Deve Gowda had strived hard to get scheduled tribe status for Valmiki Samaj. He hailed chief minister Basavaraj Bommai for increasing the reservation limit to seven percent to STs from existing three.
Meanwhile, vice chancellor of University of Mysore Prof G Hemanth Kumar also remembered the contributions of Valmiki who is responsible for transformation of the society with his exceptional poetical skills. He was speaking after inaugurating Valmiki Jayanthi celebrations held at Vignan Bhavan in Manasagangothri premises in the city.
He also wanted university level students to study Ramayana and Mahabharatha, the two great epics of Hindus, which also reflect on Hindu customs and culture. “ People overseas are eager to know much about these epics. A large number of intellectuals were inspired by these two great epics in their life," he said
