PUNE: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday forecast light to moderate rainfall over the city till October 12, and added that cloudy skies and some thunder can be expected in the evening hours.
Currently, a cyclonic circulation lies over the Gujarat region and neighbourhood. It is likely to move northeastwards across central India during the next three days. A trough runs from the cyclonic circulation over the Gujarat region to Punjab across central Rajasthan and Haryana. Another cyclonic circulation lies over central parts of the south Bay of Bengal.
"Under influence of these weather systems, scattered/fairly widespread, light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely in Madhya Maharashtra, which includes Pune district, on October 10. Scattered/fairly widespread, light/moderate rainfall is expected over the city till October 12. Then slowly rainfall activity is likely to reduce," said Anupam Kashyapi, head of IMD Pune's weather forecast division.
On Sunday, some parts of the city recorded rainfall till the evening, while several areas has mostly clear skies. As a result, the day temperatures of Shivajinagar and Lohegaon observatories increased by 0.3 degrees Celsius and 0.6 degrees Celsius respectively. Meanwhile, rain in rural Pune has destroyed the harvest of the Kharif season crops.
